About the Poets@KSP

The Poets@KSP is an ever-expanding group of poets of all ages and backgrounds who share a common interest to study, write and publish quality poetry. Founded in 2008, the group is currently facilitated by local poet, Mardi May. Individual poets include Rose van Son, Gail Robinson, Flora Smith, Maggie van Putten, Shey Marque, Anna Wright, Mimma Tornatora, Candy Gordon, Tony Harding, Andrew Levett, Graeme Butler and Geoffrey Lilburne.

The Poets meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month from 1 to 3 pm at The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre. A subgroup, The Poets@KSP Online, is available at all times for poets not able to attend physical meetings. New members are always welcome to join from anywhere in the world. Activities include introduction to new forms of poetry, exposure to the poetry of established and emerging poets, writing exercises, critiquing of your poetry in progress in a friendly and supportive environment, production of collaborative works, tips for writing poetry for competition and publication, publishing opportunities for your poetry in the group's annual anthologies.

ONLINE POETRY GROUP GUIDELINES

  • Participants must be a current member of KSP. There are various forms of membership to suit most people ie full single, family, concession and country. Choose ‘country’ is you reside more than 100 km from KSPWC, this includes interstate and international members. See the KSPWC website for further details.

  • Past members of the Poets@KSP Group may participate by special invitation from the Coordinator of the Online Poetry Group.

  • It is a requirement that poets will submit only polished work for critiquing to the Online Poetry Group. Please edit your own work to the extent of your capability before submitting to the group for comment.

  • All members of the Online Poetry Group and the Poets@KSP Group will be eligible to submit edited work to the group anthology. Each year, around July and August, a callout will be made for submissions.

  • All members of the Online Poetry Group will automatically be classed as a member of the Poets@KSP Group whether or not they are able to attend physical meetings.

The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre is located at 'Katharine's Place', 11 Old York Rd, Greenmount WA 6056. See the website kspf.iinet.net.au for further information.

The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre is the oldest of its kind in Australia. The heritage-listed centre is located in the leafy Perth Hills, in the former home of Katharine Susannah Prichard (1883-1969), author of Coonardoo, Working Bullocks and The Goldfields Trilogy. Also a poet, Katharine published two collections, Clovelly Verses, and The Earth Lover and Other Verses. The centre hosts a premiere writer-in-residence program with support from the Department of Culture and the Arts. In addition, the Centre runs workshops, author talks, writers' festivals, retreats, manuscript assessments, competitions, and an extensive youth program, all designed to help and encourage writers at all levels of the craft.

The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre is run under the auspices of the Katharine Susannah Prichard Foundation Inc. Since its inception in 1985, this non-profit organisation has played an integral role in the development and promotion of Western Australian writing.
